The Significance of Five Tarnished Women In Jesus’ Ancestral Line
Four-Week Sermon Series with Christmas Eve
Advent happens year after year. Pastors often struggle to make each year relevant and fresh. This sermon series offers an insight into five women in Matthew’s genealogy of Jesus. Men wrote the Bible in an age where men were superior to children, slaves, and especially women. Therefore, it is significant that Matthew would even include them in his letter. More to the point, why did Matthew highlight these four who were foreigners and incredibly tainted by today's standards? Mary, the mother of Jesus, wasn’t immune either. She had to lead a life where everyone she knew or met saw her infidelity by having a baby out of wedlock. These five stories speak of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. These stories offer insight into forgiveness and redemption. No one is too far out on the fringe to be left out of God’s Kingdom.
